Condenser Exhaust Vacuum Systems
These systems are designed to continuously remove air and water vapor
from the main condenser to minimize turbine backpressure for peak performance . With
design operating suction pressures of the surface condenser typically
specified at 1" HgA, even small deviations from design causes
considerable efficiency losses translating into substantial
increases in operating costs. A properly designed venting system will
insure turbine backpressure is maintained to design standards.
Systems are designed to provide a holding pressure 1" HgA at a vent temperature of 71.5 °F and an approach temperature of 7.5°F per HEI standards for steam surface condensers. System cooling water requirements to be provided from the main condenser's closed cycle cooling water.
Condenser Exhauster Systems
are furnished as fully assembled and tested skid
mounted duplex systems (100% duty back-up ). System features include:
Whether your preference is with Steam Jet Ejectors, Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps or Hybrid Systems, LYNN can provide the system performance to meet you needs.
A LYNN Water Box Priming System gets your circulating water pumps
started and keeps the condenser's water box evacuated of air. Even if
the circulating pumps don't require priming before starting, if the top
of the condenser is above the level of the discharge water, a
water box priming system will maintain condenser
and cooling water pump operating efficiencies.
The flow of water through the condenser is typically designed to take advantage of the natural siphon effect between the inlet water surface level and the lower discharge water level. By maintaining this siphon effect the circulating water pumps don't need to lift the water to the top of the condenser; they only need to be designed to overcome the friction loses. This greatly reduces the power requirements of the circulating water pumps.
Having a system flooded and filled at start-up doesn't mean it will operate at peak performance. The negative pressure at the discharge piping causes air to leak into the discharge piping and water box. Due to the operating temperature and pressure, even in a tight system air and other non-condensable will come out of solution creating air pockets. This accumulation of air will have two effects. 1. It will expose the top condenser tubes which will reduce the cooling efficiency of the condenser and 2. In time, air accumulation will eventually break the siphon causing excessive loading and reduced flow capacity in the circulating water pump.

A dedicated Vacuum Hogging system gets the steam side of the main
condenser evacuated quickly so that the turbine can be brought online. LYNN hogging systems can be provided to meet most any demand for
rapid efficient steam side evacuation. To reduce the need of multiple
systems, the hogging requirement can be achieved by running both the
main and the standby pump from the condenser exhauster system in
parallel. Either a stand alone hogging system or combined
operation design, LYNN has your needs covered.
Dedicated Hogging Systems are furnished as a
fully assembled skid mounted system. System features include:
